*Please inquire if my full fee would pose a hardship, as I do keep a couple of reduced fee spots in my caseload. Those spots are often full, but not always.

  • MY BUSINESS MODEL

You many notice that my rates are higher than average. The reasons for this include

    1) my years of experience and advanced trainings,

    2) expenses associated with the many specialized trainings I attend and noteworthy professionals I regularly hire for consultation,

    3) charging a higher rate for clients for whom my full fee is not a hardship allows me to delegate some slots at a greatly reduced rate for clients experiencing financial barriers or hardship, and

    4) having fewer clients than most full-time therapists allows me greater flexibility in my schedule for when clients need to find another time slot or reschedule.

  • PAYMENT

Payment is due on the date of each session unless otherwise arranged.

Cards are accepted in the form of Credit Cards, Debit Cards, or HSA Cards. Your Credit Card information is kept securely on file in my Electronic Health Records system using Stripe, and even I can only see the last four digits of your card. I run charges and email receipts by the end of each day.

Other forms of payment can include Personal Check or Venmo.

Please inquire if you prefer another method and I may be able to accommodate.

  • DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

The answer to this complex question is both no and yes.

In January of 2023 I made the agonizing decision to no longer be PANELED with any private insurance companies or Medicare. This means that I do not have the ability to bill and get paid by insurance companies directly.

However I can provide clients with special receipts called Superbills that can be submitted to insurers for reimbursement, which is generally available for health insurance policies that have OUT OF NETWORK BENEFITS.

To find out if you have Out of Network Benefits and exactly what those benefits are according to your policy (deductible, copays, reimbursement amount, etc), feel free to use the questions contained in this document when contacting your insurance company.

  • HEALTH INSURANCE CONSIDERATIONS

PLEASE NOTE the following considerations when using health insurance, whether working with a Paneled therapist or one who is Out of Network.

    * When using mental health benefits, insurers require that a diagnosis be included on the billing form or superbill receipt.

    * They also may request records from the therapist at any time to review treatment and coverage. If the therapist records to not meet the insurer's specific standards. they can refuse payment or reimbursement.

  • MENTAL HEALTH INSURANCE ISSUES NATIONWIDE

The US is in a Mental Health crisis. Not only have the rates of mental health issues skyrocketed in recent years, the many problematic practices of insurance companies have made it difficult for therapists to be paid fairly and predictably their work, causing them financial hardship, to leave panels, or even leave the profession altogether. The end result is policy holders having an increasingly difficult time accessing the help they need.

For more insight, please reference this report by ProPublica.

If you are having a difficult time finding affordable mental health care, especially if you have health insurance, please contact your representatives and let them know.

It is my sincere hope that one day mental health providers will be able to count on health insurance companies to demonstrate fair business practices, and that US citizens will be able to easily and equitably access mental health care when needed.
